Earthquake Hits Southern California

The tremble was felt from Los Angeles to San Diego, and partially in Las Vegas.

Preliminary information from the U.S. Geological Survey estimated the quake at magnitude 5.8, centered 29 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles near Chino Hills in San Bernardino County. Ten aftershocks occurred in the next dozen minutes, including three estimated at 3.8.

California is one of the world's most seismically active regions. More than 300 faults crisscross the state, which sits atop two of Earth's major tectonic plates, the Pacific and North American plates. About 10,000 quakes each year rattle Southern California alone, although most of them are too small to be felt.

More Banks Closing!

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The 28 branches of 1st National Bank of Nevada and First Heritage Bank, operating in Nevada, Arizona and California, were closed Friday by federal regulators.

The banks, owned by Scottsdale, Ariz.-based First National Bank Holding Co., were scheduled to reopen on Monday as Mutual of Omaha Bank branches, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said.

The FDIC said the takeover of the failed banks was the least costly resolution and all depositors - including those with funds in excess of FDIC insurance limits - will switch to Mutual of Omaha with "the full amount of their deposits."

The FDIC also said accountholders can access their funds during the weekend by writing checks or using ATM or debit cards.

Air Jordan 20/Air Force Fusions

With the recent success of the Air Jordan / Air Force One Fusion series, it looks like there is no end in sight, as we have already seen previews of fusions with the Air Jordan 6 (VI) and now the Air Jordan 20 (XX). These feature a white patent leather upper, a red ankle strap, and the classic Air Force One midsole. They are slated to release on November 28, 2008.

Lamborghini-branded ASUS ZX1 said to be canceled

It's been touted and shown off for a few months now, but it looks like ASUS may have finally given up on its luxurious Lamborghini-branded ZX1 smartphone, at least if Alex of MoDaCo is to be believed. According to him, ASUS has cancelled the planned summer launch of the device in order to ensure that "more important devices" scheduled for Q4 of this year are released on time. No word if that means we may still eventually see the pricey phone released sooner or later, but we wouldn't recommend holding your breath at the moment.

With all the other Air Jordan Fusions which have release, its only fair for the Air Jordan VI (6) to get a chance for some fame. Seen above is a picture of an expected Air Force One X Air Jordan Fusion VI (6) colorway. From what we can see the shoe has the tongue of the Air Jordan VI and ventilating holes throughout the shoe. The sneaker also has a clear icey sole all encased in a black/white/pink colorway. Unfortunately the shoe is set to release in 2009 but you can at least know what to expect.

Jumpman's Future

Starting in 2009 Jumpman will no longer be releasing any numbered sneakers. Thats right, the Air Jordan XXIII (23) were the last in the series. Beginning in 09 the Jordan Brand will release sneakers named after the year of their release. This means that the next numbered Jordan to expect will be the Air Jordan 2009.

Starbucks to close 600 stores

Starbucks has a bitter plan

Starbucks (SBUX) can’t catch a break. The coffee retailer says it will close 600 stores, about 8.5% of its 7,100 total stores, an expansion of the 100-store closing target it had previously announced.

The Seattle coffee chain has been feeling the pinch of a tightening economy. In February, the company fired 600 employees and conducted a in-store retraining program to try and revive the Starbuck Experience, as CEO Howard Schultz has called it.

Starbucks says it is trying to cull unprofitable stores from the franchise and expects to book $200 million of asset write-offs in the third quarter related to the closings. Starbucks shares are down 40% over the past year.
