Ferrari F149
Terrafugia's Drivable Airplane
Make no mistake, Terrafugia's outlandish airplane / motorcar hybrid has been on the drawing board for years, but it looks like the rubber is about to hit the proverbial road (or take to the skies, whichever) this July. A team of ten is working feverishly to ready the Transition for its debut at this year's AirVenture, where it hopes to catch more than a few eyes with its zany "roadable aircraft." As you can likely guess, this thing is meant to both fly and drive, and yes, that means it'll have to pass safety regulations from both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If all goes well, the startup expects to deliver its first vehicle to a customer in 2009, while mass production isn't scheduled to happen until 2012. We're no experts in the field, but it seems like it'll take a Christmas miracle for either of those feats to actually be accomplished.

Samsung Glyde
One of the worst-kept secrets in Verizon's stable is finally getting official today; that's right, ladies and gentlemen, meet the Glyde from Samsung. Wearing CDMA guts underneath its F700 clothing, the fashion-friendly QWERTY slider offers a 2 megapixel cam with flash and autofocus, GPS, the full range of Bluetooth profiles, microSD slot, and a true HTML browser. Unlike its crosstown competition -- the LG Voyager -- the Glyde doesn't offer support for Verizon's VCAST TV service, but we imagine most folks will consider that a minor (read: nonexistent) inconvenience. Look for the phone to start circulating into retail channels this week for a princely $249.99 on contract after $50 rebate. Have a quick gander over on Engadget Mobile for a few shots of the Glyde doing what the Glyde does best -- posing for press photography, that is.

Ferrari Testarossa Concepts!
As fans, we're comfortable looking inside Ferrari's all-star pantheon: The Enzo a monstrosity, yes, but it's family rubs shoulders with the F50. The pugnacious Testarossa and the subtle Dino punctuates a Ferrari red line that stretches back to the sublime, the quintessential, the damn-near aesthetically and mechanically perfect 250 GTO. Yet here, crammed inside Ferrari's Park Avenue showroom, are 20 new, wild and daring sculptures. Some are retro, almost art deco in form, with broad-shouldered curves and imposing fascia; others are pure fantasy, paying no heed to the imaginable limits of aerodynamic design. But somehow they're familiar call them variations on the theme of Enzo. In their own, sometimes subtle ways, they are all Ferraris.

Air Jordan Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Air Jordan line has inspired tons of people over the 23 years, and while reading Sole Collector magazine you’re guaranteed to see some off the wall Jordan content. However, this is by far the most interesting Air Jordan tribute we’ve ever seen. This 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee obviously pays homeage to Tinker’s world famous cement print and the well branded Air Jordan Jumpman.
This Jeep can be seen skating down the streets of Atlanta. The owner Roland works at Graphic Signs in Fayetteville, GA and Roland told us he loves Air Jordans. Roland also informed us that he wanted to do something different, and advertise for the shop at the same time. This full body vechicle wrap will run you anywhere from $2,000-$2,500.

2009 Aston Martin Rapide Concept
The Aston Martin Rapide concept is a four-door high-performance coupe similar to the Mercedes CLS, albeit with an even more premium clientele in mind. Based on Aston Martin's unique VH (Vertical/Horizontal) architecture, the Rapide was designed from day one with production in mind. In early 2007, Aston Martin's new owners have confirmed plans to produce the Rapide. CEO Ulrich Bez said the car will add another 1000 to 2000 units to last year's record output of 7000. When it comes to market, the Rapide something of a four-door DB9 will rival the Porsche Panamera. It is roughly the size of a Mercedes S-Class, but considerably more sleek.
Students Arrested At SDSU
Dozens of San Diego State University students were arrested after a sweeping drug investigation found that some fraternity members openly dealt drugs and one even sent a mass text message advertising cocaine, authorities said Tuesday.
Two kilograms of cocaine were seized, along with 350 Ecstasy pills, marijuana, psychedelic mushrooms, hash oil, methamphetamine, illicit prescription drugs, several guns and at least $60,000 in cash, authorities said.Of the 96 people arrested, 75 were students. Eighteen of the students were arrested Tuesday when nine search warrants were executed at various locations including fraternities, said Jesse Rodriguez, San Diego County assistant district attorney. The undercover probe, dubbed Operation Sudden Fall, was sparked by the cocaine overdose death of a student in May 2007, authorities said. As the investigation continued, another student, from Mesa College, died Feb. 26 of a cocaine overdose at an SDSU fraternity house, the DEA said. Those arrested included a student who was about to receive a criminal justice degree and another who was to receive a master's degree in homeland security. Some defendants were scheduled to appear in state court to face charges Tuesday.During the probe investigators discovered that in some fraternities most members were aware of "organized drug dealing occurring from the fraternity houses by its members," the Drug Enforcement Administration said in a news release.
"Undercover agents purchased cocaine from fraternity members and confirmed that a hierarchy existed for the purpose of selling drugs for money," the DEA said.
The district attorney's office said search warrants were served in San Diego and suburban La Mesa, including the Theta Chi fraternity house and several apartments.
A member of Theta Chi sent out a mass text message to his "faithful customers" stating that he and his "associates" would be unable to sell cocaine while they were in Las Vegas over one weekend, according to the DEA. The text promoted a cocaine "sale" and listed the reduced prices.

8th Grader commits to Wildcats! Huh?!
Michael Avery isn’t sure where he’ll attend high school next fall, but he’s already decided that he’ll attend the University of Kentucky for college. But that will have to wait a few years. The 6-foot-4 Avery, who is finishing eighth grade in Encino, Calif., has giving UK coach Billy Gillispie a verbal commitment, his father, Howard, confirmed today.“We’re very flattered and excited that Michael will have the opportunity to one day play at Kentucky,” Howard Avery said in a phone interview with The Courier-Journal. “After going through the thought process and talking to a lot of people, when you have a program like Kentucky wanting you, there’s not any better. They have a coach that appreciates what my son can offer. What else can you look for?”The elder Avery, who has a law practice in California, said his son has always had a goal to play at one of the nation’s elite college basketball programs.
And he said the family thought about the early commitment, “absolutely we did,” but decided it was best to go ahead and make the decision.“Kentucky has always been one of those dream schools, like Duke and North Carolina,” he said. “Kentucky is crazy about basketball. Basketball is through and through there, the school, the town, the whole state.“Here we have USC and UCLA and they have great programs. But this is not a basketball town.

Beijing's Gigantic LED Wall Is Fully Solar Powered
Say what you will about the fiascoes leading up to the Beijing Olympics, but the event has brought along with it some amazing new architecture. Greeting visitors attending the Xicui entertainment complex near the site of the games is a 20,000 square foot wall of computer-controlled LEDs, the largest of its kind ever built. Better yet, the wall manages to power itself completely using only the sun.The GreenPix Zero Energy Media Wall, designed by Simon Giostra & Partners and Arup, uses thousands of solar capture cells attached to each of its glass panels to charge up during the day and then release dazzling light shows at night. It's the first time perforated photovoltaics laminated in glass have ever been used in a building in China, but if all goes off without a hitch, it most certainly won't be the last.
